Anna Machalski is Roosevelt’s Illinois Director. Anna oversees a growing student network in the Midwest, guides coalition work, and works to involve students in writing and enacting policy changes at state and local levels.
Anna has a background in civic engagement, community, and labor organizing. As the daughter of Polish immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, Anna’s first ventures in community organizing were on her own college campus, leading a campaign to declare hers and other colleges in the region Sanctuary Campuses.
Anna went on to work for the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and has worked as a labor organizer with SEIU and the Graduate Employee’s Union at the University of Illinois. In 2016, she was the GOTV Director on an issue-based electoral campaign with NextGen America. There, she led the largest youth voter engagement program ever – spanning 96 campuses.
Anna is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, where she studied Religion, Russian, and Gender and Sexuality Studies.
