In the wake of President Obama’s decision to reject the Keystone XL Pipeline, Emerging Fellow for Energy and Environment issued the following statement:

President Obama’s decision to reject the Keystone XL Pipeline is a win for climate, agriculture, and public health. As we at the Roosevelt Institute seek to promote a society where policy is influenced by more than just a powerful few, it is important for policymakers to be cognizant of the debilitating effects projects like the pipeline can have on low-income persons and other marginalized groups.
However, it is one of many steps necessary to mitigate climate change. The best way to eventually relegate fossil fuels to the history books is to make significant public investments in renewable energies such as solar, and it is my hope that Congress and the president can work to advance such a bill.
