Debarati came to the Institute from her position as Editor/Publications Manager at Columbia University for Joseph E. Stiglitz. Working with a team of researchers and editors, she developed content for and managed all of Prof. Stiglitz’s writings and presentations. This included the books Globalization and Its Discontents Revisited and The Euro; over 100 articles and OpEds for major media outlets; and some 70 academic papers in top journals. She developed presentations and preparation for Prof. Stiglitz’s prominent speaking engagements and participated in events, domestically in Washington, D.C. and New York City and internationally in Kenya, India, Austria, and Germany. Prior to this, she was with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). As Managing Editor she was the head of two major publications, Country Commerce and Country Finance, and worked with a team of some 30 in-country correspondents, editors, and copyeditors which she built and managed.
She holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Drew University.
