Sunny Malhotra is a former Roosevelt Institute Senior Research Associate and current graduate student at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

At the Roosevelt Institute, Malhotra provided research support on areas focused on industrial policy and trade. His most recent piece on the topics of industrial policy and trade explores the importance of community engagement in the success of large-scale green energy projects.

Prior to joining the Roosevelt Institute, Sunny worked as a project manager and researcher at a nonprofit helping local governments with equitable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Sunny graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in economics and political science. There, he worked as a research assistant exploring how institutions and rules impact economic outcomes.
