Roosevelt Institute Announces Two New Fellows

Michael Linden, Maya Wiley to Boost Growing Team of High-Level Progressive Policy Analysts

NEW YORK, NY – The Roosevelt Institute, a leading progressive think tank committed to forwarding the legacy of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt in the 21st century, has announced two new Fellows. Michael Linden and Maya Wiley join the Roosevelt Institute at a pivotal and daunting moment for the progressive movement.

Michael Linden joins from The Hub, where he serves as Policy and Research Director. Before The Hub, he worked as a senior policy adviser to Senator Patty Murphy on the Budget and Health Education Labor & Pensions committees. He previously served as the Managing Director for economic policy at the Center for American Progress. He received his Master of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley’s Goldman School and his BA at Brown University.

“In recent years, the Roosevelt Institute has done a great job equipping the progressive movement with a vision and set of policy ideas needed to bring back the promise of American prosperity,” Linden said. “I am proud and excited to be joining this team and look forward to working with them to support their research and continue this important work.”

Maya Wiley joins from The New School, where she is Senior Vice President for Social Justice and the Milano School’s Henry Cohen Professor of Urban Policy and Management. She also serves as Chair of the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board. She previously served as Counsel to Mayor de Blasio. While working at City Hall, she oversaw the city’s expansion of a municipal broadband network to public housing residents, as well as civil and human rights. She received her JD at Columbia University School of Law and a BA in Psychology from Dartmouth College.

“I am excited to be joining the team at Roosevelt, a group of people who understand that the inequality we see in America today is not an inevitability,” Wiley said. “Whether a factory worker or a cashier at McDonalds, it’s gotten too hard to stay afloat, let alone get ahead. We have made progress, and we have much more work to if we are to get everyone on line, ensure we all work with dignity, can see a doctor when we’re sick and know our kids will be better off no matter our race or where we come from. This means investing in all communities, and we need new rules and a new strategies.  With partners like Roosevelt, we can make real change.”

With the release of its 2015 report “Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy”, the Roosevelt Institute cemented its reputation as a cutting edge ideas shop for progressives focused on building an economy that works for all Americans. Since then it has continued to chart a course forward for progressives in the face of staggering economic inequality and has released reports on topics including racial inequality, corporate power, the economic distortions caused by monopolies, infrastructure and the tax code.
