Development Manager

As the Development Manager, Katy Nelson plays a key role in the Roosevelt Institute’s fundraising strategy.

As the Development Manager at the Roosevelt Institute, Katy Nelson is responsible for grant writing across the think tank, advocacy, and network teams; stewardship management of foundations and major donors; and managing the overall fundraising pipeline.

Prior to joining Roosevelt, Nelson was a freelance writer for publications and nonprofits. She previously served as a grant writer for Demos, and as a magazine reporter in her hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Morehead Scholar; a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University; and an MFA in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte.
