Michael Madowitz

Principal Economist

Michael Madowitz is the principal economist at the Roosevelt Institute, shaping economic strategy across programmatic areas.

As principal economist, Michael Madowitz shapes and leads Roosevelt’s economic policy strategy across the think tank, overseeing critical research and policy development to rebalance power in our society and economy.

Michael also serves on the Data Users Advisory Committee for the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Prior to joining Roosevelt, he was the director of macroeconomic policy at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth and the senior economist at the US Congress’s Joint Economic Committee. He’s held positions at the Center for American Progress, Resources for the Future, and the Brookings Institution, and his research has focused on macroeconomics, climate economics, energy markets, tax policy, and the role of mothers and child care in the economy. Michael is a doctoral candidate in economics and holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, and an undergraduate degree in economics and international relations from Pomona College.
