Sophie Jacobson is a political scientist and postdoctoral research scholar at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

She coleads the Empowering Democracy Initiative, which brings together researchers, organizers, and policy leaders to advance policies that build people power and weaken antidemocratic concentrations of political and economic power. Her research examines how economic insecurity, social inequality, and public policy shape the distribution of political power and Americans’ everyday experiences of government and democratic citizenship. Jacobson received her PhD in political science from Yale University.
