What You’ll Do 

The Government Relations Associate will support the work of the Roosevelt Institute and Roosevelt Forward’s government relations (GR) team. They will have prior experience interacting with staff in congressional offices or with other busy policymakers and will ideally possess some knowledge and understanding of the federal legislative process, including Congress’s interactions with the executive branch and with federal agencies. They will be well-organized, comfortable with deadlines, experienced using email in a responsible and professional way, and interested in developing their writing skills. They will have a demonstrable grasp of progressive policies and priorities and an interest in promoting these priorities with lawmakers, agencies, and staff.

The government relations team is the connective tissue between the Roosevelt Institute and the government at all levels. The team regularly engages with members of Congress and their staff, administration and agency officials at the federal level, and state and local officials. This role will report to both the Managing Director of Appointments and the Managing Director of Government Relations This is a non-management, unionized, team role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and track GR outreach materials, ensuring that materials are accessible and easy to find for an audience of busy policymakers
  • Handle team logistics such as setting up calls and scheduling meetings with agencies and congressional offices
  • Maintain GR database in Salesforce
  • On occasion, draft materials for outreach

What You’ll Have

  • Experience writing professional emails and other correspondences
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM platforms
  • Experience drafting talking points and/or memos
  • At least 1 year of experience working at a think tank, campaign, advocacy organization, Congressional or other legislative office, or as a personal assistant  
  • A bachelor’s degree in politics, government, public policy, nonprofit management, or other relevant focus is preferred; other relevant education or experience may be substituted.

The salary range for this role is $59,000 – $63,000 annually. The Roosevelt Institute offers excellent benefits that include 100 percent paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and 80 percent paid for dependents; life insurance; vacation; personal and sick time; paid parental leave; professional development; healthcare, dependent care, and commuter FSA; and a 403(b) retirement plan with up to 4 percent contribution.
